dear all,
it's nice to hear Lesley's up-date. I wish you can recover soon.
i think Stella will up-date you about the arrangements. and it is not difficult to get the Arts Center to issue a confrimation / invitation to you, they are efficient, no worries. and i think Cheng yao may need one later when she apply for her visa to HK.
i wish the British Council could provide sufficient fundings.
about the talks, i've some ideas and proposed speakers. you may track back the blog. however, i am waiting for Sasha's respond on the talks.

Dear Stella,

I'm sorry for the long silence, I've been trying to get back to normal.
Sorry not to have written on the blog yet, I new to blogs, so it'll take me
a while.

Neil & I will be coming to Hong Kong this July. We're not sure what we're
showing yet, but had hoped to make something new. I've been in contact with
susan and Mayling, both of whom hope to make it too, but it's dependent on
us getting the British Council grant that I'm applying for. The deadline for
this is 1st May, to get to their offices. I will need a letter from you, an
email letter will be fine. The application says
"Artists must have a firm offer of an overseas exhibition in writing".
I think it's important to include everyone by name, state your role in the
project (as you don't work at the Hong Kong Arts Centre), mention the dates
of the exhibition, and any other talks/seminar organised.

Regarding the budget, you have a HK$100,000 grant already, of which HK$3,000
you've allocated for each artist. What can the artists use this $3,000 for,
or are you controlling this on each of our behalf, and if so, what do you
think this will cover?
Do you think we will get some accomodation, or do we have to fund this (this
can't be covered by the British Council, they only cover transport of work,
it's packing, and travel in exceptional circumstances)?
Have any arrangements been made about artists' talks etc. In the blog, you
mention something at the Asian Art Archive. What will this be and who will
speak?
What are the details of the catalogue, as I should also mention this in the
application? Who is writing, will there be images by each artist, will the
artists contribute any writing? When will you need images?

I have made a start on the application and sent it to Sasha to help me with
writing conceptually about the exhibition, as her writing is so good. When
that comes back, I'll forward it on to you. I'm getting slides and
information off Mayling & susan. So all is going well. It'd be good to get
the answers to the above questions as soon as you can, so that I can work
these in as well.

it is nice to see Mayling, Susan and Rosan here. I wish it wouldn't be too much work for Lesley. it seems that we are all depending on the BC funding. and i wish Stella and I are not pushing Sasha too hard. yeh, there are a lot of changes in our life over the years since the sympoisum in 2002.
i've just moved to a new home, takes time to work out the order of 'home'- but somehow find myself unfit to it. share with you more on my blog: motat.blogspot.com

Sorry for the slow response.

Re: Opening
Am planning to come to HK, but duration will depend on funding. As Mayling mentioned, Lesley is working on a British Council application on our behalf. Hopefully will be there 10 days for the installation, opening, and part of the conference - are dates confirmed?

Re: Work
- Notes On Return, 2003, installation with video, sound and paper, dimensions variable.
The video/sound element is just under 10 mins looped, and I will post stills and/or mpeg of the installation in situ in a couple of different venues, with the paper.

- Notes On Return, 2003, stills series.
These will be 4 to 6 prints, dimensions tbc

Possibly also
- After Words, 2005, video projection, approx 3 mins, looped.
This was shown as a companion piece to NOR, and similarly projected onto paper strips... but the show may be too crowded for this..!?

Hello Stella,

My belated response to your question in the CLB web blog re the opening - I
am free to come to the opening and other events in July 2006, but this would
depend on finding funds to cover air fares. Accommodation wouldn't be a
problem as I have family to stay with in HK. Lesley is currently putting
together an application to the British Council. I tried to post this in the
web blog but can only seem to respond in comments section rather than as a
post. And then, it also ended up in my own web blog but not the CLB blog.
Think I‚ll stick to the emails.

hi, stella
thank you for writing.
i'm still aiming at attending the opening, if possible.
i've some ideas of what i'm going to do, but don't know
exactly how many english 'words' i'll be playing with, give
me more time to figure out, hehe. if you still remember our
conversation at the habitus, i'm going to play with some
english words starting with 'man' or 'men' - sometimes these
words bother me, what happens to the representation of
woman/women in these words/ why not 'womankind', instead
of 'mankind', 'womanager', instead of 'manageress'? and so
forth...
the concept i'm working on is nothing new, however, i'd like
to have a go to express how i personally perceive these
english words as a chinese woman.

這個名字看來也不錯。不如座談會中文就叫話說身體？
到底誰來誰不來什麼時侯來還沒有搞清楚，我這裡便先來談談講座的想法。
- 我跟stella的原意是周五開幕、周六講坐。開幕如果想搞得有意義一點，可以考慮當場artist talk，每日十分鐘講解下展品。我覺得這個做法不錯，過往文化博物館也是這樣做。
- sasha：要出賣你給Asian Art Archive做講座，希望透過合作爭取更多資源。你看你可以談談你論文的想法麼？("Experimental Beijing: Contemporary Art Worlds in China's Capital City." ) (Stella: 你聯絡了Clarie沒有？要快！)
- 現下聯絡過的講者：

Opening:
- Since Cheng Yao and Rosanna might not be able to come for the opening. Can I also get some rough ideas from the others. I know that Sasha is coming anyway. How about Lesley+Neil, Mayling, and Susan? Is there any possibility that you guys can come for the opening, sympoisum & artist talk in July 2006? This is something really crucial for the success of the whole project and please let me and Sasha know in advance.

Budget & Sponsorship:
- As mentioned earlier, the overall budget granted from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) was 50% of our original estimated budget. In this case, HKADC funding can only support artist material fee of about HK$3,000 each and part of the transportation cost. We will have to look for other funding opportunities for overseas artists' transportation and accommodation. Lesley+Neil, Mayling, and Susan, is it possible to send letters to Arts Council England or British Council to look for sponsorship?

Work:
- We might need to know how each one of you are going to contribute for the show. Please let us know:
1) how many pieces briefly;
2) medium
3) size (if possible)

Exhibition booklet & schedule:
- need to start working on the booklet. it would be a small print out distributed for free inside the gallery in Hong Kong Arts Centre in order to fully publicise the event. Sasha and I will prepare the content and ask for your contributions later on. At this stage, please send me the CV, if there is any new update. Since this is a painstaking and time-consuming work and need huge translating/editing/proofreading, a schedule would be prepared by this week for your information.

Talk speaker:
- Leung Po is still speaking to some potential speakers. Will confirm the list asap.
- by the way, Sasha, we're thinking that you might be interested to have a talk in the Asian Art Archive in Hong Kong. Will try to arrange this and keep you posted of the latest news. pls bear this in mind :)

在梅雨天時等待天晴的日子。上周五終於在友人的天台上把這個積累多年的念頭正真活現起來。在舖砌了啡紅色東莞地磚的天台上走動，計較影子的出沒......我原以為早已喪失的學院訓練繪畫的習性一下子又跑出來了。沒有預料到的元素─風的動；太陽、地面與物件之間構成影子的濃淡粗疏；我積勞虛弱的身體狀況。從10:10到11:23，描繪影子的實相，放棄猜度事物的理應如此。但我還是因為風而動了。我選擇等待它回到原來的樣子。這是註定會失敗的舉動。因為這根本就沒有所謂原來。我的手和我的手的影子在動。我無法超越時間來描述時間本身。影子照見的，是我無法計量、感知的動。

先上来抱个姓名，我叫郑波。关于这次作品的初步想法是“看黄片，学英语”。我想将一些旧的英文黄片剪辑出来，做一本教材，展览的时候也可能真的教几堂课试试效果。想通过作品带出一些关于身体、性别、性向的讨论。想法还很初步，非常欢迎大家的建议。如果知道香港哪里有六七十年代英文的黄片，请告诉我！谢谢。

this is bo in hong kong - just want to say hi. and briefly describe my current idea for a work in the exhibition. i want to use pornographic films to teach english - this may involve editing some old porn films in english into a "teaching video", making a "textbook", and conducting some real lessons during the exhibition. i think a lot of "body" "gender" "sexuality" issues can be brought out through using porn as the language learning materials. if you have any comments or suggestion, please do let me know. i haven't started working on this. i don't even know if i can find good old porn in hong kong.
